In April of 1986 a few close friends were invited to the Dealership to talk about forming a HOG Chapter. They squeezed into the back room of the Dealership (then housed in Allen Park). They talked, listened, met new friends, partied, and decided to become MOTOR CITY CHAPTER. Someone volunteered to be Director, others for Secretary, Road Captain, and Run Coordinators. On April 19th, 1986, we had our first meeting. Twenty-Nine people signed up. A number of job responsibilities changed, and we were off and running. Our Chapter was formed because Harley riders wanted to meet other Harley riders, and ride. You didn’t have to do much—a national HOG membership, and $10 a year to be a Motor City Chapter member. Of course we had to have volunteers. There are things that just have to be done, but only if you wanted to. For that we got to meet and become friends with the best kind of people there is. Harley Riders. Since then our Chapter has become what it is because of our love for Motorcycling, and friends. We have come a long way form that small back room in the Dealership, with 29 members. We have had to move several times. From the Dealership, we moved to the American Legion hall on Middlebelt with 150 members, which we quickly outgrew. We then moved to the Copper Door Lounge. That wasn’t long lived either. From there we moved to the Token Lounge on Inkster Rd., and then to Mr. Sports on Inkster and I96. We moved again to the Tom Dooley K of C on Inkster Rd, and then to our present location, Joy Manor. Along the way, the Dealership also moved. From Allen Park, to Westland, and then to Farmington Hills, where Dick Rose has established one of the premier Harley-Davidson Dealerships in the United States. Our membership has grown also, and is now approaching 1200. We are one of the largest HOG Chapters in the State, and regularly have members joining from other Chapters. We are known as a Riding Chapter. We bought them to ride, and that we do. Come and join us. YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD TIME, AND MEET OTHER GREAT PEOPLE |
